ENROLL YOUR DOG!

How to Become a Member of the Coolest Pack in Town

Why is an Induction Program Necessary?

An Induction Program is a multi-day introduction of a dog to Real World Canine’s day camp structure and process. For the dog, it is a gradual introduction to being in a day camp setting. This is especially helpful for puppies, dogs who have never been socialized, as well as dogs with anxiety, fear, or aggression issues.

From the customer’s point of view, an induction allows them to gain insight into how their dog might respond to RWC’s day camp setting. It can assure them that their dog is not being thrust into wild open play all day with 99 other dogs, but rather, that their dog will be slowly introduced to RWC staff, activities, and then to dogs.

For RWC, an induction of a dog into our day camp structure is an opportunity to get to know the dog better before having them in our care. It is a way for us to understand what makes the dog happy, anxious, excited, or fearful. By taking the time to get to know the dog as an individual, and then introducing them to different activities, people and other dogs, we gain a deeper insight into the dog, and can make sure we can tailor a program for the dog’s needs.

Also, by taking the time to understand what makes the dog tick and how the dog reacts to different situations, we can make a “prescription” to the customer for what the dog needs, that is credible and responsive to the dog. Finally, it is unreasonable to expect a dog, thrust into an alien environment amongst strangers, to be not overly fearful, or to show their true personalities. By the third day, we get to see a dog comfortable in themselves, and showing their true personality.

Components of the Multi-Day Induction Program

The induction will be a three-day process, preferably Mon, Wed, and Friday, although other combinations are possible. However, a dog should complete their induction within a week. It doesn’t have to be a calendar week but it should be within 7 days. At the end of the three days, we will present the Owner with a recommendation on how frequently their dog should attend day camp, and the program we recommend for their dog(s).

The RWC Induction Program

DAY ONE: GETTING TO KNOW YOUR DOG

Day One is a day for your dog to decompress, and to get to know the handlers who will be working with them, and for our handlers to get to know your dog. We will be working to find out what your dog likes to eat, what toy they like best, what treat they go crazy for, and what they are motivated and driven by. Knowing what motivates your dog will help us train and guide them better.

DAY TWO: LETTING YOUR DOG GET TO KNOW US

Day Two is a day for your dog to be introduced to the various activities we conduct with your dog. We will introduce your dog to different activities, including the treadmill, games, puzzles, and challenges. Each activity will be conducted by a different handler, so your dog gets to know all of our handlers! This will also give us a chance to figure out which handler your dog likes best, so that we can pair your dog with that handler most frequently.

DAY THREE: YOUR DOG WILL MAKE FRIENDS, BE THEY 4- OR 2-LEGGED

Day Three will be the first day when your dog participates in all the activities of our day camp. Your dog will be introduced slowly to different dogs of varying energy levels and temperaments. Your dog will also participate in our themed enrichment activity of the day, and be evaluated by RWC's trainer who will assess your dog's personality, behavior traits, and potential for training. We will present you with a full report and record of your dog's three days with us, and make our recommendation to you on what type of day camp your dog should participate in, and how often they should attend.
