How does your Boarding work?
Boarding always starts with day camp for our boarding dogs. This is so that they will be tired, particularly on the first day when they are most likely to be nervous and anxious. After a full day of day camp activities, your dog will then settle for dinner, rest, get potty breaks, and then go to bed, either in our main boarding room with other Structured Day Camp-eligible dogs, or in their own indoor-outdoor kennel.
Your dog must be old enough to have completed their rabies, bordetella and DHPP vaccinations, usually around 16 weeks of age. You will need to make a reservation, fill out our Terms and Conditions of Service, as well as complete our Evaluation Questionnaire.
RWC is unique in that we have different programs that cater to different dogs. If your dog has fear-instigated reactivity, or has high anxiety, we can take them in our Solo Day Camp program, where they will only interact with humans and not other dogs. We also have Enrichment programs that have done wonders for dogs with fear and anxiety. For dogs with other special needs, we have our Custom Day Camp program where we will design a day's activities for your dog specifically.
Enrichment was originally designed by zoos to help animals in captivity. It allows the animals to express natural behaviors, fight boredom, challenge their creativity and skills, and made life in captivity that much more interesting. Dogs also need enrichment for an outlet to express natural behaviors such as digging, sniffing, foraging, and problem-solving. There are five pillars of enrichment: sensory, nutritional, physical, social, and intellectual. By catering to all five pillars of enrichment, we have seen tremendous emotional and mental progress in our pack members.
